Lee Hancock, PhD, is the Founder and President of DevelopMental Solutions.

Lee graduated from Arizona State University (ASU) with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 1997, during which time he played on a USISL (semi-professional) soccer team for 4 years.

After graduating, Lee worked for an education outreach program at ASU called “The Office of Youth Preparation” (OYP).  The mission of the office was to maximize opportunities for the greatest number of kids.  During his time with OYP, Lee accomplished a number of things, a few of which include:

  • Developed and conducted workshops for teachers in order to assist them in developing and enhancing curriculum.
  • Taught kindergarten and fifth grade in an inner city school.
  • Developed an SAT program through a collaborative effort with former ETS (the creators of the SAT) employees in Princeton, NJ.
  • With knowledge gained from above experience, subsequently developed an SAT program for athletes. The course set step-by-step goals and incorporated challenging tasks daily in order to motivate and engage athletes in the learning process.

While working at OYP, Lee completed a Masters degree in Sport Psychology between 1999 and 2002.  His research, as well as coursework, focused on the effects of different psychological variables on youth in sports. During this time, Lee applied his sport psychology skills through working with college and youth athletes.

Lee completed his PhD at ASU in August of 2005.  His work focused on sport psychology concepts and how they relate to kids in activity and sports.  Lee’s research, as well as practical interests, focused on goal setting and motivational climates as well as on creating programs for teachers and coaches to use with kids.

Lee has lectured and authored papers relating to youth sports.  He lectured at the National Soccer Coaches of America Association (NSCAA) on creating a developmentally appropriate motivational climate in which kids could participate.  Further, Lee has written articles relating to goal setting and activity as well as on creating motivational climates that can enhance performance.

During Lee’s academic pursuits, he carved out time to continue his passion for coaching soccer.  Lee holds a USSF “A” license and has coached for various clubs since 1991.  Lee ended his time in Arizona as a full time staff coach with Sereno Soccer Club, one of the countries most prestigious soccer clubs.  During Lee’s time at Sereno, he was the head coach of teams that won state championships and competed in both semifinals and finals at Region IV’s regional championships. While at Sereno, Lee also was appointed the Director of Academic Preparation; there he assisted children and their families in preparing and planning for college.  Lee was also a region IV boys staff coach from 2002-2005.

In 2005, Lee accepted a position as a Professor in the Kinesiology department at California State University Dominguez Hills, where he currently teaches.  Lee’s courses include motor development, physical education teacher preparation, sport sociology, and sport psychology course work.  Further, Lee continues to write for professional and scholarly journals and present his research and applied work at professional and academic conferences. Lee and his family currently reside in the South Bay area of greater Los Angeles.

Lee has worked with hundreds of students, athletes, coaches and organizations in order to improve performance through college planning programs, SAT preparation courses, mental skills lectures and workshops, as well as sport psychology consulting.  Since all of these services help people “develop mental solutions” through a series of planned “developmental” process steps, there really was only one name to describe these services… DevelopMental Solutions! In 2005, Lee founded the company, DevelopMental Solutions, a culmination of a lifetime of interest and enthusiasm toward the company’s mission.
